Three Common Sense Tips for a Casino Getaway from NYC

Regardless of your capacity for gambling, few entertainment venues are as uniquely exciting as casinos. Yes, there are slot machines and tables, but you have more options than trying your luck. Casinos are also doorless, smoky hubs for live performances, featuring various types of concerts and shows. Maybe it’s all of the lights, or the oxygen that’s supposedly pumped onto the floors, but whatever it is, a casino getaway are a surefire way to break out of a routine.

From New York City there are a few noteworthy options, all of which are a few hours away. Travel time is the hardest part. The trip to Atlantic City is usually three-and-a-half-hours long (no matter what Google Maps says!), and a trip to Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun will similarly take about four hours. So to have a good time at your casino getaway, try not to cut corners: that would be pound-foolish and would actually result in more stress.

  1. Stay over night: preferably on Friday and Saturday nights. They are prime for a reason! The rooms might be pricier, but the atmosphere will be more energetic, the performers more famous. Sometimes you have to do more than Netflix on a Saturday night.
  2. Stay at the best venues, with all of your preferred entertainment and amenities. Otherwise you will waste time, money, and energy just traveling.
  3. Get great accommodations: feeling like you have to leave your room to have a good time is also a waste. You will have traveled four hours—you’ll need some R&R.

If you don’t want to travel, there’s always Resorts World Casino in Queens. If you’re just looking for some gambling and drinks, it’s only an A-train to Aqueduct Racetrack away.
